**Sugar Prices Decline Amid Improving Indian Monsoon**
As of today, October NY world sugar #11 (SBV26) has decreased by $0.19 (-1.28%), while October London ICE white sugar #5 (SWV26) fell by $5.20 (-1.11%). Prices are pressured due to improved monsoon conditions in India, with cumulative rainfall reported by India’s Meteorological Department at 19% below normal as of July 22, a significant recovery from June’s 42% below normal.
Despite these declines, sugar losses are somewhat mitigated by rising crude oil prices, which increased more than 2% today, reaching a six-week high. This situation could incentivize sugar mills globally to shift production from sugar to ethanol, potentially tightening sugar supplies. Fund positions in London ICE sugar have also risen, with an increase of 716 contracts last week to a record 58,847 net-long positions, indicating possible market volatility ahead.
