Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) reported a significant earnings boost last Wednesday, raising its AI capital expenditure guidance, which initially hinted at a rebound for AI stocks. However, the anticipated rally was short-lived, as macroeconomic factors, including geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices, led to a selloff in AI trades by Friday, leaving the market under pressure.
As of early this week, the AI trade remains in a state of uncertainty, described as “no-man’s land,” with prices caught between support and resistance levels. Luke Lango, a technology investment analyst, insists the selloff is macro-driven rather than fundamentals-driven and urges patience, predicting a resolution favoring fundamentals in due time.
In a future-forward perspective, industries are projected to need significant electricity to power AI infrastructure; by the early 2030s, a single AI data center could consume as much electricity annually as one million American homes. There are currently 267 data centers planned or under construction, with a combined demand that could vastly surpass the electrical footprint of the entire U.S. residential sector.
