Hogs Surge Back Upward on Friday

**Lean hog futures increased by 47 cents to $1.32 on Friday, with USDA’s national base hog price reported at $100.49, a decline of 3 cents from Thursday. As of July 29, the CME Lean Hog Index was at $98.44, down a penny.**

**USDA reported the pork carcass cutout value at $101.46, a decrease of 18 cents, with only the picnic and ham primals showing lower prices. Estimated hog slaughter for Thursday reached 485,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 1.838 million head, down by 21,000 head compared to the previous week and 10,811 head less than the same week last year.**

**Current lean hog futures are as follows: Aug 26 Hogs at $98.900 (up $0.475), Oct 26 Hogs at $84.675 (up $1.325), and Dec 26 Hogs at $75.725 (up $1.200).**
