Amazon’s Strong Q2 Performance
Amazon’s shares rose sharply following its Q2 earnings report, where the company revealed a significant acceleration in Amazon Web Services (AWS) revenue, which reached $42.2 billion, a 37% increase year-over-year. CEO Andy Jassy projected that AWS could become a $1 trillion revenue business, underscoring the division’s impressive growth, which is now at its fastest rate in over 18 quarters.
The company’s overall revenue for the quarter hit $200.61 billion, surpassing the analyst consensus estimate of $196.47 billion, driven by North America sales rising 16% to $116.2 billion and international sales increasing by 15% to $42.2 billion. Operating income for AWS jumped 63% to $16.6 billion, resulting in an operating margin of 39% as the firm continues to invest in AI and custom chips.
Looking ahead, Amazon anticipates Q3 revenue between $197 billion and $202 billion, below the estimated $204.1 billion, partly due to shifting sales periods. Jassy also announced an increase in the capital expenditure budget from $200 billion to $220 billion, citing the strong demand for AWS services.
