Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has significantly increased its stake in the AI startup Anthropic, originally investing $8 billion in 2024 and adding another $5 billion recently. This brings Amazon’s total investment to $13 billion. Recent regulatory filings indicate that Amazon values this investment at approximately $190.4 billion, reflecting a dramatic gain of 14.6 times its initial stake.

As of the end of the first quarter, Amazon’s stake in Anthropic totaled $74.2 billion, including $42.2 billion in convertible notes and $32 billion in nonvoting preferred stock. Anthropic, which recently raised $65 billion in a funding round, is now valued at $965 billion, placing Amazon’s ownership at around 21%.

In the second quarter, Amazon reported a net income of $62.64 billion, bolstered by $53.39 billion in non-operating income attributed to its investment in Anthropic.
