In energy markets, Brent crude oil rose 0.7% to $89.13. Additionally, significant earnings reports from major retailers this week may determine whether consumer spending downturns are a temporary issue or indicative of a longer trend.

Memory chip stocks performed strongly, with SK Hynix rising 6.5% and Micron Technology increasing by 5.9%. Nvidia also saw a 0.9% uptick amid plans to finance up to $105 billion in credit for an OpenAI data center project. Conversely, Meta Platforms fell 3.3% ahead of a federal trial concerning alleged addictive designs of its platforms for children.
