**Live cattle futures gained up to $2 on August 24, 2023**, with cash trade reported between $355 and $360. However, the Fed Cattle Exchange auction for 1,520 head saw no sales, with bids ranging from $223 to $225. In feeder cattle futures, prices rose by as much as $1.50.
The USDA’s export sales data showed beef sales for 2026 reached **9,299 metric tons** for the week ending August 13, marking a five-week low. In contrast, shipments hit **12,646 metric tons**, achieving a six-week high. Meanwhile, the USDA estimated Wednesday’s cattle slaughter at **106,000 head**, bringing the total for the week to **309,000 head**, which is **1,000 head lower** than the previous week and **25,007 head below** the same week last year.
