Live cattle futures ended mixed on Wednesday, with most contracts rising between 37 to 82 cents, while October decreased by 17 cents. Cash trade for live cattle reached $220, an increase of $2 from the previous day, alongside some dressed sales reported at $345 in the northern market. The Fed Cattle Exchange auction had no sales from 2,000 head offered, with bids ranging from $218 to $220.
In the feeder cattle market, futures closed down between 27 to 97 cents, although some deferred contracts rose by 92 cents to $3. The CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped $1.19 to $334.27 on August 25. USDA reported Wednesday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 105,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 310,000 head, which is 35,746 head lower than the same week last year.
