Soybean Prices Surge on Tuesday After EPA Announcement

Soybean futures experienced gains on Monday, with most contracts rising between 9 to 10 cents, while September saw a minor decline of 1 cent. Open interest increased by 2,712 contracts, primarily in the January contract. The cmdtyView national average cash bean price rose slightly to $12.53 1/2. Soymeal futures decreased by 10 cents, ending at $3.90, while soy oil gained 1 to 16 points.

On the same day, the EPA granted 18 small refinery exemptions for 2025, totaling 1.76 million RINs, with reallocations set for 2026 and 2027. Additionally, USDA reported a private export sale of 159,000 MT of soybeans for the 2026/27 marketing year. The Crop Progress report indicated that 95% of the U.S. soybean crop had set pods by August 30, with condition ratings down 2% to 58% good/excellent.

USDA’s FGIS reported soybean export shipments at 250,801 MT for the week ending August 27, marking a 41.7% decrease compared to the previous week and 49% lower from the same week last year. Mexico was the leading destination with 53,896 MT, followed by Algeria and Egypt. Analysts expect July soybean crush data to show between 219 to 221.3 million bushels.
