Capex Surge among Hyperscalers: Three Resilient Industrials Benefiting from the AI Competition

Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT), Eaton (NYSE: ETN), and Vertiv Holdings (NYSE: VRT) are highlighted as key players in the industrial sector that support AI infrastructure. Caterpillar reported second-quarter revenue of $20.5 billion, a 24% increase year-over-year, and earnings per share of $7.77, marking a significant rise from $4.62 a year prior. The company also noted a 72% increase in revenue from its power generation segment, which is driven by demand for equipment in data centers.

Eaton disclosed a substantial surge in power consumption by AI clusters, rising from around 5 megawatts (MW) a few years ago to over 500 MW today. The company achieved second-quarter revenues of $8.53 billion, up from $7.02 billion the previous year. Vertiv reported a 24% increase in revenue to $3.27 billion, with net income soaring to $497.9 million, an increase from $324.2 million last year. The stock performance of both Eaton and Vertiv indicates a strong upward trend, with respective increases of over 13% and 115% in the past year.
