Market Update: U.S. Jobs Data Impact on Stock Indices

The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.3%, the S&P 500 dropped 0.4%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 0.5% as of early Friday afternoon, following significant job growth reported for August.

Payrolls rose by 162,000, far exceeding economists’ expectations of 53,000, marking the strongest month since March. Unemployment remained steady at 4.1%, while average hourly earnings increased by 3.1% compared to last year, slightly below July’s inflation rate of 3.4%.

Market reaction indicates a 60% probability of a quarter-point interest rate hike during the Federal Reserve’s meeting on September 15-16, as traders await upcoming consumer and producer price data, crucial for future Federal Reserve decisions.
