Tesla Launches Cybercab Rideshare Service in Austin

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has initiated the rollout of its self-driving taxi service, the Cybercab, offering rides to paying customers in Austin, Texas. This marks a significant milestone in Tesla’s plans for autonomous driving as it expands its Robotaxi service to seven U.S. markets.

The company has begun producing the Cybercab, with an expected capital expenditure exceeding $25 billion by 2026 aimed at scaling its robotic taxi fleet and other future initiatives. Despite the launch, confidence remains tempered as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an audit into the vehicle’s compliance with safety standards.

Tesla’s current market capitalization is approximately $1.1 trillion, which reflects expectations for massive future growth, not just in electric vehicles, but also in autonomous transportation and robotics. Investors are cautious, as the company’s second-quarter results showed a free cash flow decline of $1.1 billion while maintaining a cash balance of about $44 billion.
