Amazon and Alphabet’s Major Data Center Investments

Amazon and Alphabet are projected to be the largest spenders in the data center industry by 2026, with Amazon anticipating expenditures of approximately $220 billion and Alphabet estimating between $195 billion and $205 billion. Amazon’s spending could have translated to a one-time dividend of $20.41 per share for its shareholders, while Alphabet investors could have seen $16.40 per share.

Both companies are experiencing significant growth in their cloud computing sectors, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) reporting a 37% increase in revenue year over year, totaling $42.2 billion in Q2. Alphabet’s Google Cloud surged by 82%, with revenues of $24.8 billion.

With the demand for computing capacity continuing to rise, CEO Andy Jassy noted that Amazon does not currently have enough capacity to meet projected demand for 2026, indicating a strong growth trajectory for both companies as they manage substantial investments in data centers.
