Lean hog futures rose between 10 to 60 cents at the close of July, with the August contract at $107.125. The USDA’s national base hog price fell by $1.67 to $111.67. The CME Lean Hog Index slightly increased by 10 cents to $110.51 as of July 29.
Pork export sales reported 17,003 metric tons for the week ending July 24, marking a six-week low, while shipments rose to 27,573 metric tons. The USDA’s pork cutout value decreased by $2 to $114.00 per cwt, with the belly primal down $10.83. An estimated 479,000 hogs were slaughtered on Thursday, bringing the total for the week to 1.859 million, a decline of 2,000 head from the previous week and 45,418 fewer than the same week last year.
