Nvidia Achieves $5 Trillion Market Cap Amid AI Boom
In 2025, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) became the first company to reach a $5 trillion market capitalization, fueled by a 1,390% increase in stock value since the start of the AI boom in January 2023. The company, which holds over 80% of the AI accelerator market, is a leader in both hardware and software solutions, reinforcing its position as the world’s most valuable company.
Contrastingly, Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU), the third-largest supplier of memory chips, reached a $1 trillion market value in 2026, just 48 days after hitting $500 billion—marking the fastest growth in history. However, due to the commoditized nature of its products and lack of a durable competitive edge, Micron’s gains are tied to cyclical market fluctuations, with revenue rising 345% last quarter attributed to a broader supply shortage.
Historically, Micron’s stock has faced significant volatility, dropping over 25% multiple times in the past decade, while Nvidia’s stock has experienced fewer declines. Analysts emphasize that while Micron may benefit in the short term from the current supply shortage, it is unlikely to achieve a $5 trillion valuation given its economic vulnerabilities.
