AI Stocks Face Valuation Adjustments Amid Market Concerns

Artificial intelligence (AI) stocks, which led a significant bull market over the past three years, are experiencing a decline in valuations due to general market apprehensions about sustainability in AI spending. For example, Nvidia’s stock, crucial for providing the graphics processing units (GPUs) that fuel AI applications, has seen its price-to-earnings ratio drop from over 40x to around 22x, as the company’s revenue and net income surged to $96 billion and $59 billion, respectively, in the latest quarter.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, reported an 82% increase in revenue from its Cloud business to over $24 billion and has seen its valuation decrease to 16x forward earnings, down from about 30x. Similarly, Micron Technology has witnessed its stock price decline from 16x to just 6x forward earnings, with revenue soaring more than 300% to $41 billion in a recent quarter due to a memory shortage critical for AI processes.
