Volkswagen AG (VWAGY) announced a profit warning on [insert date], disclosing approximately €10 billion ($11.5 billion) in one-time charges for 2026, primarily due to difficulties within its Porsche sports-car division. This forecast comes amid declining demand in China, rising competition from Asian manufacturers, and the financial burdens of transitioning to electric vehicles.

Key impacts include around €6 billion from a non-cash goodwill impairment related to Porsche, with the operating return on sales for 2026 now expected to be up to 1%, a drastic reduction from the previous guidance of 4-5.5%. Volkswagen also anticipates additional charges of approximately €2 billion associated with early retirement programs and asset impairments related to its operations in China.

The company’s restructuring efforts include the Future Plan 2030, aiming for a workforce reduction of about 50,000 positions to enhance competitiveness in the changing automotive market. Furthermore, Volkswagen was removed from the Euro Stoxx 50 index during its annual reshuffle, adding further pressures for investors as shares have dropped 22.8% over the past year.
