Meta Platforms on the Cusp of a Possible Stock Split

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has seen its stock surge 91% over the past year, reaching an all-time high of $565 per share. As of 2024, the company’s stock-based compensation amounts to $8.2 billion, making up 17.5% of its total operating costs, a notable increase from 16.2% the previous year.

Despite discussions around a potential stock split to make shares more accessible or to influence its standing in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, analysts suggest Meta is unlikely to execute a split soon. Their stock-based compensation model primarily uses restricted stock units (RSUs), allowing granular control over wage costs, reducing the immediate necessity for a split.

Meta has not split its shares in the 14 years since its IPO, making it increasingly unlikely that the company will initiate a split in 2024.
