Microsoft 365 Copilot Growth and Future Projections
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) reported over 30 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats as of June 30, 2026, a substantial increase from over 20 million three months earlier. The company’s paid Microsoft 365 commercial seats total more than 450 million, indicating that current Copilot usage covers only about 7% of the potential market.
In a significant move, Microsoft announced a rebuilt Copilot app on September 25, integrating it with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The adoption rate has accelerated, with around 10 million seats added in the fiscal fourth quarter alone, compared to about 5 million in the third quarter, showcasing a quarter-over-quarter growth of over 250% year-over-year.
Moving forward, Microsoft aims to reach 60 million paid Copilot seats by June 2027, requiring an average addition of approximately 7.5 million seats per quarter. This projection is contingent on maintaining interest in its offerings amidst a competitive landscape, as the company continues to enhance its Microsoft 365 suite.
