Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, a pioneering artificial intelligence research company led by Dr. Fei-Fei Li. The deal, valued at approximately $8.2 billion, is expected to close by the end of 2026. World Labs specializes in spatial-intelligence models for generating interactive 3D environments and is also expanding technologies for robotic learning and simulation.
This acquisition aligns with AMD’s strategy to transition from selling individual chips to providing full-system AI infrastructure. AMD’s Data Center revenues surged 107% year-over-year in Q2 2026 to $6.7 billion, and the company anticipates the data-center AI accelerator market could reach roughly $1.4 trillion by 2030.
AMD faces significant competition from NVIDIA and Broadcom, with the latter reporting a 221% year-over-year increase in AI semiconductor revenues in Q3 2026. Despite these challenges, AMD’s shares have risen 183.7% year-to-date, outpacing the broader tech sector.
