- Reports suggest that Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is delving into the world of custom processors it has developed internally, in a strategic move to augment its artificial intelligence capabilities.
- The chips are slated for production later this year and are earmarked for integration into Meta’s data centers, as per a report by Reuters citing an internal memo. According to a company spokesman, the chips will complement the array of GPUs that Meta already procures from third-party sources.
- Previously, the social media behemoth had been pouring billions of dollars into Nvidia’s (NVDA) data center-designed chips, crucial for effective AI computation. In a recent announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed the acquisition of 350K H100 chips by the culmination of 2024.
- Furthermore, Meta has also ushered in AMD’s (AMD) novel MI300x chips in its data centers.
- Amidst these ventures, Meta’s shares experienced a 1.5% ascent on Thursday, on the eve of its quarterly earnings release post the closing of market trading.
