Japan’s Mitsui (OTCPK:MITSF) (OTCPK:MITSY) has tactically fortified its energy reserves, revealing a landmark agreement with Qatar. The deal, signed on Sunday, entails the purchase of 11 million barrels of condensate annually for a decade from April. This alliance serves as a strategic buffer against potential disruptions in U.S. energy supplies, following the Biden administration’s halting of new licenses for liquefied natural gas export projects.
The comprehensive deal not only secures the current volume but also includes an option to ramp up the condensate supply from QatarEnergy to Mitsui (OTCPK:MITSF) (OTCPK:MITSY) in line with additional volumes generated from Qatar’s ambitious North Field LNG expansion project.
Condensates, a vital by-product of natural gas production, assume a pivotal role in the gasoline production process.
As Mitsui (OTCPK:MITSF) (OTCPK:MITSY) contemplates purchasing a stake in the North Field expansion project, Qatar’s LNG output is set to skyrocket to 126 million metric tons per year by 2027, up from the current 77 million tons per year.
