In a move that heralds cutting-edge collaboration, Synopsys (SNPS) and NVIDIA (NVDA) have joined forces to revolutionize chip design and automotive prototyping through the groundbreaking fusion of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing technologies. This landmark partnership was unveiled at the prestigious NVIDIA GTC global AI conference.

At the conference, SNPS revealed its adoption of the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper, a move that delivers a remarkable 15X boost in runtime speed for its EDA stack. Synopsys VCS is also taking advantage of NVIDIA GPUs to ramp up functional verification speed.

Thanks to NVDA’s technology, Synopsys has drastically enhanced its bug detection efficiency by leveraging fine-grained parallelism and parallelized graph evaluation.

Synopsys Elevates Efficiency and Performance

SNPS’ PrimeSim has turbocharged SPICE simulation workloads using NVIDIA GPUs, achieving SPICE-level precision in a fraction of the time. Proteus has streamlined computational lithography with NVIDIA’s cuLitho software library, significantly reducing workload duration. Additionally, Synopsys’ Fusion Compile is fast-tracking hybrid CPU/GPU performance through NVDA’s cutting-edge technology.

The company is expanding its Synopsys.ai LLM-based capabilities, commencing with Synopsys.ai Copilot, to bolster support for NVIDIA AI and compute platforms. This will entail leveraging NVDA’s AI Enterprise software platform, encompassing the NeMo framework and deployment containers such as NVIDIA NIM inference and NeMo Retriever microservices.

Furthermore, a strategic alliance has been forged between Synopsys and NVIDIA to capitalize on the digital transformation in the automotive sector. By synergizing NVIDIA’s Omniverse with Synopsys’ virtual prototyping tools, automotive teams can now develop, test, and validate software and electronic systems within a virtual realm. This integration promises to slash costs, accelerate time to market, and bolster the safety of software-defined and autonomous vehicles.

Synopsys Leverages Growing Ecosystem

In a move that underscores its commitment to innovation, in November 2023, SNPS teamed up with industry heavyweights such as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Intel, and Microsoft to embed generative AI across the entire Synopsys.ai EDA stack, spanning design, verification, testing, and manufacturing.

The enduring partnership between SNPS and AMD has played a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of sophisticated and high-performance Ryzen and EPYC SoCs. AMD has consistently relied on Synopsys’ top-notch IP to drive its success.

Synopsys has also collaborated with leading firms like Juniper Networks (JNPR), Realtek, Teradici, NetLogic Microsystems, Toshiba, and Wolfson as its primary EDA partners.

Juniper Networks has embraced SNPS’ OptoCompiler platform, including the OptSim and PrimeSim HSPICE simulation solutions, to enhance its photonic-enabled chips for the next wave of optical communications. Synopsys derives substantial benefits from having a plethora of industry leaders as collaborative partners.

Presently, SNPS and NVDA both boast a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). AMD holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), while Juniper Networks currently has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Over the past year, shares of SNPS, NVDA, AMD, and JNPR have delivered impressive returns of 49.3%, 241.5%, 96.9%, and 14.8%, respectively.
