The Power of Loyalty
Rivian Automotive, hailing from the sunny shores of California, has made waves yet again. The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer announced on Tuesday that its cherished existing customers, the proud owners of the revered R1 series, are in for a treat. They are being granted the golden ticket: priority access to the tempting second-generation EV set to debut in 2026, aptly named R2.
Unveiling the Future
The R1 lineup, Rivian’s pride and joy, caters to the discerning high-end EV market. Priced at $69,900 and $74,900 respectively for the R1T and R1S (excluding added costs), these vehicles are the epitome of luxury and performance.
This month, Rivian took the automotive world by storm once more with the grand reveal of the R2 SUV and the R3 crossover. The R2 SUV, starting at a tantalizing $45,000, is a compact masterpiece that directly challenges Tesla’s Model Y, which boasts a starting price of $43,990.
The Future is Now
Rivian has its eyes set on a production kickoff for the R2 in the first half of 2026, straight from its manufacturing hub in Normal, Illinois. The response has been nothing short of phenomenal, with over 68,000 reservations pouring in within a day of the announcement. The clamor for the R2 is unmistakable, painting a picture of burgeoning demand and an ever-expanding waitlist.
For those perched patiently on the Rivian customer roster, the promise of a swift delivery once R2 production revs up is heartening. However, the road ahead is not without its twists, as a two-year wait looms large on the horizon.
