Groundbreaking Extraction Technology
In an effort to reshape the mining landscape towards sustainability, a new extraction technology funded by the province of British Columbia is making waves. The company behind this technology has introduced a cutting-edge closed-loop process infused with advanced chemistry. This approach not only helps extract and refine critical metals but also aligns with the mining sector’s shift towards renewable energy in an environmentally conscious and economically viable manner.
Unlike traditional methods, the metal alloys – including essential elements like platinum group metals, copper, and tin – produced by this groundbreaking technology are then further refined by industrial customers. The unique aspect of this process lies in its ability to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as lower electricity and water usage when compared to conventional mining or recycling techniques.
The Visionary Backing
According to the ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, British Columbia is fast becoming a hub for clean-energy initiatives. Minister Josie Osborne highlighted that the province is home to 20% of Canada’s clean-tech firms, which are making a considerable global impact. The emergence of pH7, the company spearheading this innovative technology, underscores the region’s commitment to fostering groundbreaking solutions within the mining sector.
By prioritizing near net-zero environmental impact during the extraction of critical metals and minerals, pH7 is setting a precedent for transformative innovation in mining practices worldwide.
Financial Support for Sustainable Growth
Since 2008, the Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund has allocated around C$112 million ($83m) to bolster pre-commercial clean-energy technology projects, enhance clean-energy vehicles, drive research and development, and facilitate energy-efficiency programs. The financial support from ICE Fund reflects a broader commitment to nurturing sustainable technologies that are poised to shape the future of energy production and resource extraction.
Paving the Way for Sustainable Mining Practices
Founder and CEO of pH7 Technologies, Mohammad Doostmohammadi, emphasized the critical role of innovation and collaboration in meeting the escalating demand for essential metals. Doostmohammadi highlighted the necessity for cleaner, greener solutions to address the growing gap in metal accessibility. pH7 is dedicated to bringing its clean-tech solution to the forefront, aiming to revolutionize metal extraction processes and enhance existing methods in terms of sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
