Amazon’s Satellite Broadband Initiative Gains Momentum
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is advancing its satellite broadband business, now called Amazon Leo, which aims to compete with Elon Musk’s Starlink. The initiative, previously known as Project Kuiper, currently has over 250 satellites in orbit, with plans for an additional 20 launches this year.
On a significant business development note, Amazon recently secured partnerships with Delta Airlines for in-flight Wi-Fi services and with Apple for iPhones and Apple Watches. In comparison, Starlink leads the market with 9,600 satellites and projected sales of $11.4 billion in 2025. The satellite broadband industry is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 15.1%, potentially reaching $35.7 billion by 2033.
