Alphabet Joins the Dow Jones Industrial Average
Alphabet Inc. will replace Verizon Communications in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, effective June 29, 2023. This change follows Honeywell International spinning off its aerospace division, a strategic move impacting the composition of the Dow. Alphabet’s current share price of $346.13 positions it as the Dow’s sixth-largest component, accounting for 4.1% of the index. The decision aligns with Alphabet’s established credentials in artificial intelligence, cloud services, and consumer technology.
The inclusion marks a significant shift as Alphabet is recognized for dominating the internet services landscape, with YouTube generating $9.9 billion in revenue in Q1 2026. The company has also strengthened its position in the cloud sector, being the third-largest global provider after Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. This addition to the Dow further emphasizes the growing tech focus within the index.
