Amazon’s Cloud Leadership and Financial Performance
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasized the company’s cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), during the earnings call on October 26, 2025, stating it remains the largest in the industry despite losing market share to competitors like Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. In the most recent quarter, AWS posted a 24% year-over-year growth, equating to over $21.2 billion in revenue, which outpaces Google Cloud’s $15.5 billion increase and Azure’s growth of around $19 billion.
For fiscal year 2025, AWS generated operating income of $45.6 billion, compared to Google Cloud’s $13.9 billion. Amazon plans to invest $200 billion in capital expenditures this year, primarily directed toward AWS, indicating its commitment to maintain its cloud leadership amid increasing competition. However, this ambitious spending plan has raised skepticism among investors, leading to a decline in stock value despite overall revenue growth of 14% to $213.4 billion and operating income rising 18% to $25 billion in the same quarter.
