Amazon Achieves New Milestone
On Monday, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) closed at $284.02, marking a more than 4% increase and reaching a market valuation of over $3 trillion for the first time. To reach a valuation of $4 trillion, Amazon would require a 31% increase in stock price, equivalent to approximately $371 per share.
In its latest earnings report, Amazon reported second-quarter net sales of $200.6 billion, a 20% increase year-over-year, while operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion. Notably, the company’s cloud segment, Amazon Web Services (AWS), saw sales growth of 37% to $42.2 billion, the fastest in 18 quarters.
Looking ahead, CEO Andy Jassy indicated a capital spending plan of approximately $220 billion for 2023, up from an earlier projection of $200 billion, emphasizing ongoing demand for Amazon’s services.
