Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime Video is set to exclusively
air an NFL playoff game next year, according to The Wall
Street Journal. This move solidifies Amazon’s position as
a key player in the live sports streaming arena.
The streaming service, which already hosts Thursday Night
Football, turned down the opportunity to air a playoff
game this year. However, with this latest deal, it seems
Amazon is reclaiming the rights to air high-stakes NFL
action.
It is worth noting that Comcast’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Peacock
streaming service made history last month by broadcasting
a playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas
City Chiefs, marking the first time an NFL playoff game
was available on a streaming platform. This game was also
simultaneously shown on NBC affiliates in the Kansas City
and Miami markets.
With next year’s game set to move from Peacock to Amazon,
fans can expect an even broader reach and enhanced viewing
experience, marking a significant shift in how viewers
consume live sports. This development underscores the
growing allure of digital streaming platforms and the
increasing competition among providers to secure coveted
sporting events.
The news of Amazon’s upcoming exclusive NFL playoff game
broadcast is certainly a game-changer, reshaping the
landscape and dynamics of live sports streaming.
