Amazon’s Financial Performance
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported strong quarterly earnings with a market capitalization nearing $3 trillion and shares hitting an all-time high above $287. This year, the stock has risen approximately 19%. The company’s cloud platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), achieved its fastest growth in 18 quarters at 37%, contributing $16.6 billion—61%—of the $27.5 billion in operating income for the June 30 quarter.
Despite a significant earnings increase from $18.2 billion to $62.6 billion, much of the growth was attributed to a $53.4 billion investment return from AI company Anthropic. This adds complexity to the stock’s valuation, which currently sits at a price-to-earnings ratio of 22, slightly below the S&P 500 average of 24. Analysts project a forward P/E around 23, indicating potential for long-term investment in light of Amazon’s growth strategies in AI and chips.
