Amazon’s AI Chip Potential
Amazon’s custom AI chips, revealed to be growing at a triple-digit rate, could generate an annual revenue run rate of $50 billion if sold externally, according to CEO Andy Jassy. Currently, the business has a $20 billion run rate and significantly enhances the competitive edge of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Amazon’s Trainium2 chips provide a 30% price-performance improvement over Nvidia’s GPUs, while the upcoming Trainium3 is expected to deliver an additional 30-40% increase. Jassy indicated that AWS’s investments, which may total $200 billion this year primarily for AI infrastructure, underscore their commitment to capitalize on the rapid adoption of AI technologies.
