Amid growing concerns over sustained losses, Amazon’s live streaming platform, Twitch, is expected to initiate a substantial reduction in its workforce, potentially affecting around 35% of its employees, equating to approximately 500 staff members.
Reportedly, the impending layoffs are set to be unveiled imminently, likely occurring on Wednesday. This move arrives in the wake of multiple high-profile executives exiting the company, as disclosed in a recent Bloomberg report, which cited individuals familiar with the matter.
Amazon’s decision to downsize follows its announcement last month regarding the closure of the Twitch business operations in South Korea, effective February 27. This strategic maneuver was attributed to the onerous burden of operational expenses and network fees.
Notably, Twitch had previously conducted a workforce reduction in March, releasing over 400 employees due to a shortfall in user base and revenue growth, falling short of expectations.
