Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has agreed to acquire AI research company World Labs for approximately $8.2 billion, while Nvidia announced its $12.93 billion acquisition of open-source AI platform Hugging Face. Both deals are pending and expected to close in 2026 and the first half of 2027, respectively.
AMD’s acquisition aims to strengthen its position in AI with the addition of renowned researcher Fei-Fei Li as the executive vice president and chief scientist. In contrast, Nvidia’s Hugging Face deal expands its ecosystem, which includes over 18 million developers and more than 3 million models.
Financially, AMD reported a second-quarter revenue of $11.5 billion (up 50% year-over-year), while Nvidia’s revenue soared to $96.2 billion (up 106% year-over-year). AMD expects around $13 billion in Q3 revenue, whereas Nvidia predicts approximately $108 billion for Q3, reflecting 89% growth from the prior year.
