Amazon’s Growth and Predictions in Cloud Services and AI

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported a remarkable increase in its earnings as it continues to expand its e-commerce and cloud computing sectors. As of its latest earnings call, CEO Andy Jassy expressed a belief that Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing arm, could eventually achieve over $1 trillion in annual revenue, compared to the current run rate of $169 billion. This comes amid a bullish forecast for growth driven by demand in artificial intelligence (AI) services.

AWS has reportedly reached a quarterly AI revenue run rate exceeding $25 billion, significantly higher than the $58 million run rate reported just three years after its launch. To support this surge, Amazon plans to increase its capital spending to $220 billion in 2023, up from a previous estimate of $200 billion, reflecting the booming demand for cloud services. Despite the raised spending, Jassy noted that the company will still be unable to meet all projected demand through 2024.
