Apple Acquires Full Rights to “Severance”

Apple has acquired complete ownership of its hit series “Severance” from Fifth Season in a deal estimated at $70 million. “Severance” has garnered 27 nominations and won eight awards at the 2025 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most-watched programs on Apple TV. The acquisition aims to facilitate the production of new seasons and potential expansion of the franchise, including spin-offs and international versions.

Filming for the third season of “Severance” may begin as early as summer 2025, following challenges such as pandemic restrictions and Hollywood strikes that delayed the second season’s release. Apple is reportedly focused on leveraging the success of “Severance” to enhance its streaming service, which is estimated to have about 45 million subscribers and is currently losing over $1 billion annually as it builds its content library.
