Apple’s Price Hikes and New Launches in India
Apple’s introduction of its latest smartphone lineup, including the foldable iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro, comes with significant price increases in India, attributed to rising input costs. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at 164,900 Indian rupees (approximately $1,725), which is 44% higher than its U.S. counterpart. Older models, such as the iPhone 17, have also seen a price rise of 21%, now retailing at $1,045, exacerbating affordability concerns in a market where average smartphone prices increased by 14.4% year over year.
India’s smartphone market, which saw a 7.9% drop in shipments in the first half of 2026, generated over $10 billion in revenue for Apple last fiscal year, up from $9 billion in the previous year. However, significant price hikes could deter potential customers from purchasing Apple products, especially with the expected annual growth rate for the Indian smartphone market at 10.5% through 2030. The increased prices could push consumers towards competing brands, potentially impacting Apple’s growth in this rapidly expanding market.
