Apple Launches Affordable iPhone 17e at Spring Event
At its spring event on October 3, 2023, Apple introduced the entry-level iPhone 17e, priced at $599, the same as last year’s iPhone 16e. This new model boasts double the storage capacity at 256 GB, despite rising costs for components, particularly memory and storage chips driven by increased demand for artificial intelligence technologies.
Apple’s strategic decision to maintain its pricing amid soaring component costs indicates a focus on capturing market share, particularly in competitive markets like China, where it has faced challenges from lower-priced rivals such as Vivo, Huawei, and Xiaomi. CEO Tim Cook warned that rising input costs may impact profit margins in future quarters, yet the iPhone 17e’s pricing strategy places Apple in a competitive position globally.
