Arm Holdings Unveils First In-House Chip
Arm Holdings, a leader in semiconductor design, has announced the creation of its first physical silicon, the Arm AGI CPU, designed specifically for artificial intelligence infrastructure at scale. This pivotal move was revealed during an event in San Francisco this week as the company aims to tap into the $1 trillion AI CPU market.
The Arm AGI CPU features up to 64 CPUs and approximately 8,700 cores, offering double the performance-per-watt compared to traditional x86 architectures. Meta Platforms serves as the lead partner and first major user of the chip, with additional customers including Cloudflare, F5, OpenAI, SAP, and SK Telecom.
Arm’s transition into chip production marks a significant expansion for the company, which has historically focused on chip design. The company highlights that over 350 billion Arm-based chips have been shipped globally, indicating its established footprint in the semiconductor industry.
