Ford Expands Into Battery Storage Market
On May 11, 2023, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) announced the launch of its new subsidiary, Ford Energy, which will focus on providing battery energy storage systems (BESS) to utilities, data centers, and large industrial and commercial clients across the United States. This strategic move aims to capitalize on emerging technological trends and diversify Ford’s business beyond its traditional automotive sector.
Despite this expansion, Ford’s core financial performance remains driven by vehicle sales. In Q1 2023, the company sold 457,000 cars, generating $43.3 billion in total revenue and a net income of $2.5 billion. Ford continues to offer a quarterly dividend of $0.15, backed by its automotive revenue, but analysts caution that the cyclical nature of vehicle demand may threaten this payout in unfavorable economic conditions.
