AST SpaceMobile Expands Satellite Network
AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ: ASTS), headquartered in Midland, Texas, is developing a global cellular broadband network accessible via standard smartphones. The firm’s initiative involves deploying over 45 high-powered satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) using low-band and mid-band spectrums. As of now, ASTS has launched its BlueBird satellites, with BlueBird 6 featuring a 2,400 square-foot communications array capable of peak download speeds up to 120 Mbps. The company aims to increase its satellite count with launches expected every one to two months, targeting completion by the end of 2026.
Recent FCC approval allows ASTS to provide commercial supplemental coverage from space, enabling mobile network operators (MNOs) to expand their service offerings without significant investments. The firm boasts a robust patent portfolio of over 3,850 patents, contributing to its innovative satellite technology.
Financial projections show ASTS’s revenue poised to grow from under $100 million last year to over $700 million next year, bolstered by strategic partnerships with telecom giants like AT&T and Verizon. Notably, the company reports over $3.5 billion in cash and equivalents as of Q1, ensuring a solid foundation for its expansive satellite deployment plans.
