American Express Company (AXP) reported earnings per share (EPS) of $4.53 for the second quarter of 2026, exceeding the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.7% and rising 11% year over year. Total revenues reached $19.6 billion, a 10% increase from the previous year, narrowly beating consensus expectations.
Network volumes grew by 9% year over year to $516.8 billion, although this figure missed the consensus estimate of $520.9 billion. Total interest income was $6.6 billion, up 5% year over year but below the expected $6.7 billion. Provision for credit losses was reported at $1.1 billion, down 23% year over year. American Express also bought back 7 million shares for $2.2 billion during the quarter.
As of June 30, 2026, American Express had total assets of $308.2 billion and cash equivalents of $45.2 billion. The company projects a revenue increase of 10% for the full year 2026, with an estimated EPS range of $17.30-$17.90, representing a potential 14.4% rise from 2025.
