Four major companies—Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft—are leading the AI infrastructure spending wave, collectively investing $410.2 billion in 2025, with projections for higher spending in 2026. Concerns around the sustainability of returns on this substantial investment are growing, particularly as components in AI data centers have a short lifespan.
Despite these concerns, Alphabet reported $132.2 billion in net income over the past 12 months and had $126.8 million in cash and cash equivalents at the end of 2025. Other hyperscalers like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are also in strong financial positions, suggesting they can absorb the heavy capital expenditures in AI.
