British Columbia Miners Take Top Honors at Reclamation Symposium

The 48th British Columbia mine reclamation award ceremony was held on September 20, 2023, in Penticton, as part of the annual Mine Reclamation Symposium attended by over 270 participants, including biologists, engineers, and members of First Nations communities. The event recognizes innovative practices in environmental protection and reclamation at mining sites.

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) received the Jake McDonald Annual Reclamation Award for its Swift Project at Fording River operations, which aims to produce 170 million metric tonnes of steelmaking coal over 25 years. Reclamation activities began in 2020, utilizing a bottom-up lift construction method. Additionally, Amrize won the Sand & Gravel Award for its collaborative reclamation projects, while Jacqueline Dube and DJ Formanski were honored with the Tony Milligan Book Award for their exemplary research.

The 49th Mine Reclamation Symposium is scheduled to take place in Fort St. John from September 21 to 25, 2026.
