Monday saw the introduction of lower-priced variants of the entry-level sedans from Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD (OTCPK:BYDDF): the Qin Plus Glory Edition and the Chaser 05 Glory Edition, each priced at RMB 79,800 ($11,100) – a 20% reduction compared to their predecessors.
This bold move is in line with BYD’s strategy to disrupt the fuel car market and provide affordable options to compete with traditional fuel models.
These new models not only offer competitive pricing but also boast new features, setting their sights on attracting a larger customer base in the EV market.
The Qin Plus hybrid is set to go head-to-head with popular gasoline sedans like Nissan’s (OTCPK:NSANY) Sylphy and Volkswagen’s (OTCPK:VWAGY) Lavida, presenting a compelling alternative in the market.
In a similar stride, Wuling (OTCPK:WLMTF) has followed BYD’s lead by slashing the price of its own hybrid sedan. SAIC-GM-Wuling has rolled out a new version of its Xingguang hybrid sedan featuring an extended battery range of 150 kilometers, priced at RMB 99,800 ($13,870).
This new model comes in RMB 6,000 ($830) cheaper than its prior iteration, despite offering the same battery range.
