Live Cattle and Feeder Cattle Futures Show Notable Gains

Live cattle futures finished Tuesday with significant increases, settling up between $1.32 and $2.30. Cash market activity has primarily focused on compiling showlists early this week. Concurrently, feeder cattle futures also advanced, closing higher by $1.82 to $2.90. The CME Feeder Cattle Index faced a downturn, falling by 48 cents to an average price of $291.02 as of March 31.

The USDA’s National Wholesale Boxed Beef report released Tuesday afternoon indicated a rise in prices, with the Choice/Select spread widening to $20.15. Specifically, the price of Choice boxed beef surged by $6.96 to reach $342.22 per cwt, while Select beef increased by $2.06, settling at $322.07. Furthermore, the USDA estimated Tuesday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 123,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 227,000 head. This figure represents a decrease of 16,000 head compared to the previous week and a reduction of 2,404 head from the same week last year.

Apr 25 Live Cattle closed at $209.125, a rise of $1.325.

Jun 25 Live Cattle closed at $205.425, up $1.775.

Aug 25 Live Cattle closed at $202.325, increasing by $2.300.

Apr 25 Feeder Cattle closed at $288.275, up $1.825.

May 25 Feeder Cattle closed at $287.150, rising by $2.650.

Aug 25 Feeder Cattle closed at $292.400, an increase of $2.900.
