Current bids ranged from $226 to $228, while Northern sales were reported at $230-230.50, and Southern sales reached $232. Feeder cattle also fell by $3 to $4.75. The CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped $1.66 to $347.82.
The USDA reported mixed wholesale boxed beef prices on Thursday, with Choice boxes down 29 cents to $377.97 and Select boxes up 51 cents to $360.76. The Chc/Sel spread narrowed to $17.21. Additionally, federally inspected cattle slaughter on Thursday was at 112,000 head, totaling 456,000 for the week, which is 1,000 head above last week but 39,701 head lower than the same week last year.
