Live cattle futures declined on Thursday, with contracts falling between $1.80 and $2.47 by the close. Cash trading began at $247-248 nationwide, marking a $7-8 decrease from the previous week. The Fed Cattle Exchange reported no sales on 1,356 head, with bids ranging from $245 to $248. Feeder cattle futures dropped by $4.90 to $5.90, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index rose to $374.45, an increase of $3.70 on July 8.
According to USDA export sales data, beef sales for 2026 totaled 13,977 metric tons for the week ending July 2, up from a corrected figure of 12,064 metric tons from the week of June 25. Beef shipments were recorded at 14,492 metric tons, reflecting a decrease from the prior week. The USDA’s federally inspected cattle slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 112,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 430,000 head—down 3,000 from last week and 35,480 head lower than the same week last year.
