Live cattle futures declined by 85 to 95 cents on Friday, with October live cattle up by 72 cents. There were no deliveries for October live cattle on Thursday, and cash trade remained slow, with transactions in the North recorded at $230-231. The Friday Fed Cattle Exchange auction saw no sales from the 1,586 head offered, with bids at $232. Feeder cattle futures also fell, ranging from $1.60 to $2.35 lower by midday.

The USDA reported an increase in Wholesale Boxed Beef prices on Friday morning, with Choice boxes rising by $1.05 to $366.27 and Select boxes up by $2.67 to $347.00. Federally inspected cattle slaughter on Thursday was estimated at 111,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 446,000 head, which is 12,000 head lower than the previous week and 29,807 head below the same week last year.
