Live cattle futures increased by 50 cents to $1.025 on Friday, despite October contracts dropping 77 cents this week. The Fed Cattle Exchange reported no sales from the 2,552 head listed, with bids ranging from $230 to $232. Light cash trade in the North was at $230, down $2-5 from last week, while a few Southern trades concluded at $233, down $4. Feeder cattle futures gained $2.55 to $3.05, with October seeing a 17 cent increase this week.
USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef prices showed mixed results, with Choice boxes decreasing by 95 cents to $362.77 and Select boxes rising by $1.98 to $345.38. The Chc/Sel spread narrowed to $16.89. Estimated USDA federally inspected cattle slaughter for the week was 557,000 head, which is 2,000 more than last week but 54,571 fewer than the same week last year.
